Simple Ideas for Layering and Keeping Warm This Winter

One of the biggest things about fashion during the winter months is how we use layering in order to create a great look, as well as, importantly, to keep ourselves warm.  Given that modest Islamic fashion centres around keeping ourselves covered up, layering fits in perfectly. The challenge, therefore, is to ensure that one looks good at all times.
We explored a number of options that are available to Islamic women who are looking to get stylish with their layering in the winter, and describe why they are so great.
You read that right – capes are becoming an immensely popular part of women’s wardrobes around the world, and not just with those who have pretentions of looking like Wonder Woman or Batgirl.
The cape is an excellent alternative to a traditional jacket, especially if you are looking for a large range of movement and want to feel as if your arms are ‘free’ for you to carry out whichever tasks you need to on the move. We’ve all experienced the frustrations of reaching up or out with a fitted jacket on, only to feel it riding up as we reach. Nothing to worry about in that sense when you go for a cape.
They look great with just about anything, too, so whether you are wearing modest trousers to work or a kaftan dress or abaya around town, for example, you can have confidence that your cape will keep you protected from the elements and ensure that you look great.

Your Hijab
One easy way to layer up better and keep yourself warm is to consider the hijab that you are wearing. If you are able to substitute it for a warmer material then do so. Keep your thinner hijabs for during the summer when you want to enjoy their cooling effect. Your best option may well be to seek out luxurious fabrics, such as cashmere or merino wool, so that you don’t experience the irritation that you may do if you went for a more coarse wool, for example.
You should also consider a pashmina, too, especially as you will likely to still be able to fit a cape over the top of this and whatever else you are wearing.

Under Dresses
When we talk about layering it is easy to get lost in what we add on top, however ensuring that we are well protected via base layers keeps us just as warm, and means that we can focus on the real style with the garments that everyone can see.
Options for layering up could include a well fitted cotton t-shirt or leggings underneath a kaftan dress or an abaya, while an underdress or slip may be another option you consider.
Layering up in the winter can be great, and is often a brilliant excuse for adding more to an already great looking wardrobe. Whether you go for base layers or add capes and pashminas to your current style to keep you warm and looking great, you will be assured of a comfortable and confident winter.

  1. Greqt tips, thanks for sharing.

  2. Mashallah, this is a very informativ post!

  3. Abayas are the most beautiful part of Islamic clothing. The varieties and designs of abayas available these days are so beautiful and stylish that I don't even think of going for any other piece of clothing other than abaya.
